Adding Content to Your Group Page

Why Add, Edit, or Remove Gadgets?

  • Adjust your gadget lineup to meet your needs. If your community doesn't need an Announcements gadget, you can remove it to save space. Or maybe you want two separate Bookmarks gadgets. You can control what gadgets show up on your page.
  • You can also adjust gadget settings, like putting a custom RSS feed in a News gadget.
  • Create your community in the Navy Log now!

 

Adding Gadgets

You’ll notice that your new Group page already contains a number of gadgets.  Since you’ve already created a Group Profile, this information is displayed, as well as your News items and Member Directory. 

To add more gadgets, click Manage this Page to open your Power Strip. More information on Pwer Strip functions can be found here: The Power Strip.

In the Power Strip, click on iBelong Gadgets to display all available gadgets.  Then check the box next to the gadget you’d like to add. More information on gadgets can be found here: Working With Gadgets.

Use the Add to: dropdown box to place your gadget on the right or left side of your page.  Then click Add.   

You can hide the information in any gadget by clicking the “-” in its upper right hand corner.  To reopen a gadget, click the “+”.

Click the X in the upper right hand corner of any gadget to remove it from your page.  You can always put it back on your page using your Power Strip.

To change the content displayed in your Group Profile and News gadgets, edit your Group Profile gadget.

Removing Gadgets

Click the Manage this page link at the upper right hand corner of your page.  When your Power Strip opens, click the Settings Bar.  You’ll see a Delete link appear in the top bar of each of your gadgets.

To delete a gadget, click its Delete link.  This will PERMANENTLY DELETE the gadget, so a popup will ask if you’re sure. Click OK if you are sure.

If you’re not sure you want to delete a gadget, click the X in the gadget’s upper right hand corner instead.  This will  save the gadget in case you want to use it later.

Editing Gadgets

You can change a gadget’s title, permissions, and layout settings by clicking on Manage this page.  When your Power Strip opens, click the Settings Bar

Click on any gadget.  You’ll see Delete and Settings links appear in the top bar of each of your gadgets.

Click the Settings link in a gadget’s top bar to open the Settings menu.

To change the title, enter a new title in the Appearance box. 

To decide who you’d like to control the gadget, enter roles (owner, guest, etc.), separated by commas, in the Allowed Roles box.

To move a gadget up or down on the page, first note its location on the page. If it’s the first gadget, for example, its Zone is 0.  The second gadget is in Zone 1, and so on.  Choose a new number in the Zone Index.

When you’ve finished editing the gadget’s settings, click OK or Apply to save your changes.
